Kitchener’s Temporary Patio Expansion Program returns to support local restaurants and bars looking to increase their outdoor space
The City of Kitchener is continuing to support the local hospitality industry by extending the Temporary Patio Expansion Program. Restaurants and bars can once again apply through a streamlined process to obtain quick approval for temporarily adding new, or expanding existing, patio space. The over 60 businesses that participated in last year’s program will also be offered easy and quick renewal.
Owners interested in participating in the patio expansion program should visit www.kitchener.ca/patios to complete a simple six-step process. Owners who have plans, proposals, and licenses ready will move more quickly through the application process. In some cases, approval for their new or expanded temporary patios can occur in as little as two business days. Once again, there is no cost to participate in the program.
The Temporary Patio Expansion Program helps businesses that want to temporarily add new, or extend their current, patios on private property. Bar or restaurant owners who are looking to use their existing patio space do not require any further approvals but are encouraged to refer to the resources below on how to safely operate a food establishment and patio during the COVID-19 pandemic.
