The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) works to protect people and property from flooding. You can sign up for flood alerts on their website.


Safety tips

During a flood, please:

  • listen to local media and follow our social media accounts for up-to-date information
  • note key areas under warnings from GRCA
  • stay far back from water
  • keep pets on a leash
  • wait until authorities give an all clear before going near rivers and ponds

Please do not:

  • walk in the flooded areas
  • drive around road barricades

Flood facts

Here are some quick facts about fast moving water and their depths:

  • six inches deep: can knock an adult off their feet
  • one foot deep: can push a car off the road
  • two feet deep: can cause a car to float with the current
