About the program
Our youth summer employment support program will help reduce barriers to summer jobs for youth with low income by offering up to $300 to get what they need to apply or to be eligible to apply for summer jobs with the City of Kitchener.
Depending on your situation, this support could cover:
- drivers abstract or drivers record
- vulnerable persons criminal reference check
- standard first aid certification
- High Five Certification
- Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard and Swim Instructors
- uniform costs

If you have already applied or are thinking of applying for a summer job with us, this program may be for you. Summer positions may include:
- summer camp leaders and coordinators
- youth drop-in leaders and coordinators
- inclusion coordinators and inclusion support workers
- aquatic assistants and lifeguard instructors
- student labourers (parks, sportsfields, cemeteries, golf courses)

Find out if you qualify
You may qualify for our youth summer employment support if you are:
- between the ages of 15 and 30
- low-income (see examples below)
- a resident of Kitchener
- either a potential new City of Kitchener employee or returning employee
Summer positions that are not at the City of Kitchener do not qualify for this program.
We consider an applicant to be low-income if:
- you need financial assistance to meet the job requirements to apply for a summer job with the City of Kitchener
- meeting the application requirements of a City of Kitchener summer job would put an undue financial hardship on either you or your family
