The DTK Patio Program is a collaborative effort between the Downtown Kitchener BIA and the City of Kitchener. As the season shifts to warm weather, patios spring up all over downtown Kitchener.

Existing patios

If you are a downtown restaurant and have a previously approved patio, you do not need to fill out a renewal form. If your patio is on public property, we will reach out to collect your updated insurance certificate as well as a copy of your liquor licence (if applicable).

New patios

If you want to apply for a new patio or change your existing patio, please:

  1. review our patio guidelines
  2. fill out an outdoor patio application
  3. send it to us by email

Fees

If your downtown patio is on public property, the encroachment fees are:

  • first-time application fee: $324.48, including HST
  • annual patio renewal fee for patio with 12 or fewer seats: $162.23, including HST
  • annual patio renewal fee for patios with 13 or more seats: $324.48, including HST
  • amendment to existing patio agreement: $162.23, including HST

We mail invoices in the summer. If your patio is on private property, there are no encroachment fees.
