COVID-19 updates

All City of Kitchener community centres are closed for public use with some exceptions

Some community centres are open for the following services:

  • Day camps
  • Youth and seniors programming
  • Public access computers
  • Emergency social services such as food distribution and addiction support

Parking and transit

If you're registered for a program or accessing a center service, you can get a parking pass for on-site parking from our office on the first floor, through the centre’s front double doors.

These Grand River Transit (GRT) routes stop near the Downtown Community Centre (DCC):

GRT no longer offers paper bus tickets. Fare payment information is available on their website.

We offer programs for kids, teens and adults of every age. Check ActiveNet or your copy of Active Kitchener to find the right program for you.

Teddy Bear Picnic Day

Celebrate Teddy Bear Picnic Day on July 24 by participating in one of many events across the city! Explore your neighbourhood Make Tracks Walking Trails and search for hidden teddy bear images, purchase a themed family size charcuterie picnic bag from the Kitchener Market, or sign up for a variety of free activities being offered by the KPL.

If you're an older adult who wants to learn more about your computer or iPad, sign up for a free and virtual Kitchener Tech Connects class!

You can book 45 minutes of open gym time for up to 10 people in your household (including yourself). This program is free.

Leisure access

Visit our leisure access page to apply for lower registration fees for city-run programs. This does not include programs run by neighbourhood associations or our partners. Check with community centre staff for fee assistance options.

Hair salon

Downtown Community Centre has a full-service salon for the whole family. Services are available by appointment only. Please call 519-741-2200 ext. 5077 to book an appointment.

Outreach and health

Family outreach

The House of Friendship offers family outreach services at the DCC. Please call Dianne at 519-498-7815 to book an offsite appointment.

Sexual health

Due to COVID-19, the Youth Sexual Health Clinic at the DCC is closed.

To make an offsite appointment, call the Region of Waterloo at 519-883-2267 during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).


Use your own phone, tablet or computer with our free Wi-Fi. Choose the “Kitchener Public WiFi” network and follow the instructions that show up.


There are men’s and women's washrooms on the first and second floor.

There are change tables in the washrooms on the second floor.

All our bathrooms are accessible. There is also an accessible changeroom.

Due to COVID-19, the washrooms are only open to those who are registered for a program.
