The Kitchener Youth Action Council (KYAC) is for young people aged 14 and 24 who want to make a positive difference in the community. These inspiring young people make Kitchener a better place for everyone in our community.

About KYAC

KYAC members work together to take action across our community. They accomplish things like:

  • planning and running events in support of current youth needs
  • running the KYAC Youth Awards
  • sharing opinions with the City and regional government to help ensure young people are considered when decisions are made
  • sharing their ideas and views by speaking at city council meetings and community events
  • supporting other youth-focused groups and organizations in our community

Ceremony

The 2025 KYAC Youth Award ceremony will be taking place on Wednesday, May 7 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Victoria Park Pavillion (80 Schneider Ave, Kitchener). As there is limited spacing, please register by email.

Applications to join KYAC are closed. Please subscribe to this page to get an email when they open in summer 2025.

Eligibility

KYAC members must:

  • be between 14 and 24 years old
  • live in or attend school in the City of Kitchener
  • be able to attend weekly in-person meetings on Thursday evenings

Application process

After you apply, we'll contact you to set up an informal interview with two current members and a city staff person. This group will determine your eligibility and let you know if you're a successful applicant.
