COVID-19 updates

Community centres are open for essential services only

Ontario is in a modified version of step 2 of the province’s roadmap to reopen. Read more.

All City of Kitchener community centres are closed for registered programs and non-essential services.

Some community centres remain open for these services:

  • public access computers
  • emergency social services such as food distribution and addiction support

Proof of vaccination

Individuals entering a City of Kitchener recreation facility or community centre must show proof of vaccination via a paper or electronic copy of their vaccine record as well as identification. Some exceptions apply. Learn more.  

You can print or download your vaccination receipt or QR code from the provincial booking portal.

While Ontario is in a modified version of step two of the province's roadmap to reopen, Chandler Mowat Community Centre is open for essential services only, including public access computers and food distribution. Please register for a public access computer timeslot before visiting the centre.

Monday to Wednesday: noon to 4 p.m.

Thursday: closed

Friday: noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: closed

Parking and transit

Free parking is available off Chandler Drive.

These Grand River Transit (GRT) bus routes stop near Chandler Mowat Community Centre:

  • route 3 on Ottawa Street South and Elmsdale Drive
  • route 12 on Westmount Road East

GRT no longer offers paper bus tickets. Fare payment information is available on their website.

Register for a program

We offer programs for kids, teens and adults of every age, including music lessons and drop-in programs for youth. Check ActiveNet or your copy of Active Kitchener to find the right program for you.

Book a gym

The “book a gym” program is not available while Ontario is in a modified version of step 2 of the province’s roadmap to reopen.

Leisure access

Visit our leisure access page to apply for lower registration fees for city-run programs. This does not include programs run by neighbourhood associations or our partners. Check with community centre staff for fee assistance options.

Chandler Mowat Community Centre does not have open gym time or workout equipment.

Outdoor amenities

Our community centre has these seasonal outdoor amenities:

  • splashpad
  • community ice rink
  • playground
  • basketball court


These washrooms are available at Chandler Mowat Community Centre:

  • two accessible unisex washrooms
  • men’s and women’s washrooms in the hallway near the gym

The accessible unisex washrooms have change tables.

Due to COVID-19, the washrooms are only open to those who are registered for a program.

Computers and Wi-Fi

There are public access computer available in room one of Chandler Mowat Community Centre. They are available when the centre is open and you can reserve time online.

Use your own phone, tablet or computer with our free Wi-Fi. Choose the “Kitchener Public WiFi” network and follow the instructions that show up.
