Connections @ Home

To help older adults stay active and connected while at home, we're delivering curated activity boxes and kits to their front door. During registration, we'll ask you to complete an initial questionnaire about your social and leisure interests to help personalize the activities and programs selected for each activity box.

To further support social connections, individuals receiving the activity boxes will be encouraged to join weekly teleconferences or Zoom programs to participate in group activities such as BINGO, guest speakers, trivia games or discussions.

Rockway Centre redevelopment

We're starting the process of redeveloping Rockway Centre with a new, modern, purpose-built facility to create a centre that will better meet your needs. We’re committed to working with current visitors and older adults from across the city.

We haven't made a decision about where the new centre will be located. We believe it would be beneficial to look for partnerships that would see the centre redeveloped in its current location, or in a location near the current site. Through an open, transparent and competitive bidding process, we will be looking for a development partner who is interested in working with us.

Council endorsement

City council endorsed a staff report on April 29, 2024, with direction to move ahead with redeveloping Rockway Centre.

Request for Information

The first phase of the project involved a Request for Information (RFI) to help us understand the options potential partners would consider in redeveloping Rockway Centre. The RFI is now closed, and the first phase of work approved by city council is now complete.

Engagement and Request for Proposal

The next phase of the project includes community engagement, which will take place in late summer/early fall. Rockway Centre patrons and older adults from across Kitchener will have an opportunity to help us define clear requirements for the new older adult centre. These requirements will help inform the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, which is expected to take place in early 2025.
