COVID-19 updates

All City of Kitchener community centres are closed for public use with some exceptions

Some community centres are open for the following services:

  • Day camps
  • Youth and seniors programming
  • Public access computers
  • Emergency social services such as food distribution and addiction support

Hours

All City of Kitchener community centres are closed due to COVID-19. Subscribe to this page to get an email when we re-open.


Parking and transit

Free parking is available off King Street East and Charles Street East.

Grand River Transit (GRT) route 7 and route 8 stop on King Street East in front of Rockway Centre. Plan your route with GRT’s trip planner.

GRT no longer offers paper bus tickets. Fare payment information is available on their website.

We are not currently offering in-person programs due to COVID-19, but you can register for online programs with Rockway Centre!

Use the accordions below to see what's available, then register on ActiveNet. If you're not sure if virtual classes are for you, send us an email to try one week free.

All programs in these accordions are virtual and online-only.

Tuesdays
  • 9 a.m. - Virtual Stretch Class
  • 9:30 a.m. - Virtual Guitar Jam Group
  • 9:30 a.m. - Horseshoes at Rockway
  • 1:30 p.m. - Outdoor Yoga with Josh (register online)
Wednesdays
  • 9 a.m. - Virtual Shape Up With Weights Class
  • 10 a.m. - Virtual Stretch Class
  • 1 p.m. - Book Talk Group (fourth Wednesday of each month)
  • 1 p.m. - Outdoor Tai Chi with Chris (register online)
  • 2 p.m. - Virtual Coffee Chat Group (weekly, join on Zoom)
Thursdays
  • 9 a.m. - Virtual Stretch Class
  • 9:30 a.m. - Horseshoes at Rockway
  • 10 a.m. - Virtual Stability Ball Class
  • 1 p.m. - Virtual Colouring Social Group (weekly, join on Zoom)
Fridays
  • 9 a.m. - Shape Up With Weights Class

Leisure access

Visit our leisure access page to apply for lower registration fees. Our goal is to make city-run programs accessible to everyone.


Group card

Get unlimited access to ongoing groups at Rockway Centre, Breithaupt Centre and Downtown Community Centre with a group card.

If you are older than 55, the group card costs $16.07 a year. For adults 54 and younger, the group card costs $19.56 a year.

Amenities and services

Due to COVID-19, we're not currently offering these services. Subscribe to this page to get an email when Rockway Centre re-opens.

Food and drinks

Stop by the Rockway Tuck Shop for homemade wraps, salad, yogurt parfaits and more. Our menu is available all day while the centre is open.

Dine at the Rock is now at the Downtown Community Centre.

Mini-meals are still available for:

  • $5.50 each
  • 2 for $10
  • 3 for $14.50

Lending libraries

Donate or pick up a new book or puzzle from our lending libraries.

The lending library is located on the second floor.

Washrooms

These washrooms are available at Rockway Centre:

  • men’s and women’s washrooms in the basement and main floor (both accessible)
  • one gender-neutral washroom on the second floor

Wi-Fi

Use your own phone, tablet or computer with our free Wi-Fi. Choose the “Kitchener Public WiFi” network and follow the instructions that show up.


In the neighbourhood

Rockway Gardens, a popular photo spot, is across the street from Rockway Centre.

Tee up at Rockway Golf Course, a short trip away from Rockway Centre.
