Current issue

This winter, we won’t be producing our Active Kitchener magazine, but you can find lots of fun things to keep active (and safe!) right here!

We’ve also created this webpage so we can provide you with the most up-to- date information that follows provincial guidelines as we move through the pandemic.

Please visit the webpages listed in the sections below, or call 519-741-2345, for the most up-to-date program and event information. Also, visit us on Facebook for live streams, program updates and more.

Inclusive programming

If you or your child has a disability and require one to one support to participate in any of our programs, we will do our best to accommodate you. Support may be provided by program staff, training volunteers or support workers. Visit our leisure support webpage for more information and to complete a request form.

For any other accommodation needs or requests, please email the Inclusion Services Coordinator or call, 519-741-2200 ext. 7229.

Keep active, at home!
The City of Kitchener is committed to keeping residents connected and active with free resources. Visit out Active At Home webpage to find activities and events you can do from home, including all new programming:

Plus, stay tuned to our Instagram page for a weekly schedule of fun events and activities!

Community centres

During the provincial shutdown, community centres are closed. Be sure to visit one of our community centre webpages, or ActiveNet to learn what programs are being offered by the City and Neighbourhood Associations as we move through the pandemic.

During the pandemic, City of Kitchener and neighbourhood associations are safely offering:

  • Book your Bubble: pre-book time to use a community centre gym for physical activity with members of your household
  • Select programs and day camps
Outdoor winter rinks

One of our favourite winter traditions each year is working with more than 350 community volunteers who help us build and maintain outdoor rinks in neighbourhoods across the community. This winter we’re collaborating with staff and volunteers to open and maintain our neighbourhood rinks.

Find more information and a list of rinks by visiting our winter rinks webpage.

Ice safety

They may look appealing for activities like skating or ice fishing, but frozen stormwater ponds and natural bodies of water are NOT safe for going on to. Ice conditions are not monitored and can be unpredictable and dangerous.

Stay safe this winter. Stay off the ponds.

Reimagine Winter

Reimagine Winter is a series of fun and safe activities, attractions and virtual programs to help residents stay healthy, connected and resilient this winter. Why not try something new with members of your household?

For more information, visit our Reimagine Winter webpage.

Residents are reminded to follow public health guidelines while participating in any event.

Children and youth

Join other children and youth for after-school, evening and weekend recreation and leadership development programs where you can connect, get active, have fun and express yourself in a supervised and safe setting.
