Route 1 grand opening

When: Sunday June 7, 1 p.m.
Where: Filsinger Park (near Monte Carlo St)

Did you know you can bike from The Boardwalk to Downtown Kitchener in just 26 minutes – and almost entirely on trails? Kitchener is investing in cycling and trails, guided by its award-winning Cycling and Trails Master Plan, which focuses on planning and designing streets and trails for “all ages and abilities.” This includes the implementation of 8 city-wide active transportation routes connecting neighbourhoods major destinations, transit and commercial areas. The first of these routes – Route 1: The Boardwalk to Downtown Kitchener – is now open and the City invites residents of all ages to come try it out.


4th annual Pride Ride

When: Friday, June 19, 7 p.m.
Where: Gaukel Block

The City of Kitchener is celebrating Bike Month and Pride Month by partnering with local organizations Spectrum and Camino Wellbeing to host our 4th annual Pride Ride. Join this fun, casual ride and bring visibility to members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Decorate your bike in pride colours to win prizes!


Community Rides

To promote Route 1: The Boardwalk to Downtown, the City will be hosting two community rides beginning at the Boardwalk and ending downtown at Victoria Park for Multicultural Festival (Saturday, June 20) and KidsPark (Sunday, August 16). Route 1 is the first of 8 city-wide active transportation routes designed for all ages and abilities connecting neighbourhoods to downtown, transit, commercial areas and major destinations.

Community ride 1

When: Saturday, June 20, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Meet at The Boardwalk (near bus station)

Join a fun group ride and get to know Route 1. Stay for the fun at Multicultural Festival. Hosted by the Active Transportation and Trails Advisory Committee.

Community ride 2

When: Sunday, August 16, 12 p.m.
Where: Meet at The Boardwalk (near bus station)

Bring the whole family for a fun group ride and get to know Route 1. Stay for the fun at Kidspark. Hosted by the Active Transportation and Trails Advisory Committee.


Bike safety skills training

When: Sunday July 12, 2-4 p.m.
Where: The Boardwalk (near bus station)

Learn new skills or brush up on your current knowledge. Trained instructors will teach the fundamentals of riding a bike safely in the city. Bring your own bike or bikes will be available to borrow. Must be 14 or older.

Kitchener isn’t just investing in cycling and walking infrastructure, we’re investing in education too, so that all road users understand the rules of the road - and trail.

Bikecheck

Bike Check is BACK! Kitchener’s Bike Check service is just like coat check, but for your bike. Cycle to an event, leave your bike with us and enjoy the event worry-free! Find us at some of the most popular events this summer, such as Multicultural Fest, Rib Fest, Blues Fest, KidsPark in Victoria Park and Bestival in Belmont Village.

Bikecheck Volunteer
