The City of Kitchener and the Kitchener Professional Firefighters Association (KPFFA) have reached a freely negotiated two-year deal; the third such freely negotiated contract in a row.

Council approved the deal this afternoon, after it was ratified by union members on Tuesday March 30, 2021. KPFFA represents 231 Suppression Firefighters, Fire Prevention, and Communications employees.

The two-year collective agreement runs January 1, 2021 – December 31, 2022 and takes effect immediately. Under the new contract, KPFFA members will see an average increase of 1.96% in wage and benefit increases over the two-year term.

Wage adjustments are as follows:

  • Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 1.923%
  • Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 1.695%

The previous contract expired December 31, 2020.
