With each municipal election, the City of Kitchener relies on the support of hundreds of election workers who serve in various roles at the city’s voting locations to ensure all eligible voters can cast their ballots during advance voting and on election day. This year is no exception. The City of Kitchener is seeking motivated individuals who are interested in serving their community by working at one of the city’s 71 voting locations during the 2022 municipal election.

Beginning today, applications can be submitted online for the roles of Managing Deputy Returning Officer (MDRO), Deputy Returning Officer (DRO), Tabulator Assistant (TA), and Election Assistant (EA) during the election period. Employment opportunities are available during advance voting, Wednesday, Oct. 12 to Saturday, Oct. 15, and on election day, Monday, Oct. 24.

To be eligible to work at a voting location during the election period, candidates must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the election and legally entitled to work in Canada. Applicants cannot be a candidate or the spouse, sibling, parent, child, grandparent, or grandchild of a candidate running in the 2022 municipal election.

As part of the application process, candidates will be asked to complete a short assessment at the time of application to demonstrate their knowledge of municipal election processes and computer literacy skills.

Successful applicants will also be required to attend a mandatory training session prior to voting day.
