Applications are now open for the City of Kitchener’s 2026 Artist in Residence program. This year’s program will focus on the local music industry and appoint a Musician in Residence for the first time since 2019. Kitchener’s Artist in Residence program is the oldest of its kind in Canada, encouraging artists to develop their practice or interests as they engage and collaborate with the community. The City is now accepting applications from classic car owners, businesses and entertainers who are interested in showcasing their work at one of the City’s summer events. After receiving over 1,500 votes from the community, the City of Kitchener’s final seven snow plows have been given new monikers.These plows will join Kitchener’s fleet named in 2023 and 2024 – including Scoopy Doo, Plowasaurus Rex, Baby Snowda, Mr. Plow and more – which are familiar fixtures throughout the city as they’ve helped keep roads clear and safe for travel.

It is just one week until the City of Kitchener’s spring program registration opens! Register for swimming lessons, recreation programs and sports for all ages starting Tuesday, March 10 at 8:30 a.m. for Kitchener residents (and March 17 for non-residents).
At 11:15 p.m. on March 2, 2026, Kitchener Fire responded to a fire at a single-family home on Denlow Street. The fire appears to have started in the attic with the cause being an electrical fire.
The City of Kitchener welcomes the return of Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training), a camp designed to educate and empower young women (age 15 to19) to explore a career in fire services. Not your ordinary camp, Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT is offered annually by the Kitchener Fire Department.
