Help shape the future of Kitchener’s playgrounds

The City of Kitchener is reviewing all playgrounds across the city to help plan future upgrades, replacements and investments. This project will help ensure playgrounds remain safe, welcoming, inclusive and well-distributed across the city so residents in every neighbourhood have access to great places to play.

As part of this project, the City is inviting feedback from residents to help understand where future investments will have the greatest impact. This project is the City’s first comprehensive, city-wide review of playgrounds, taking an approach that combines technical review with community input to better understand how playgrounds are used, which spaces are most valued and where improvements are needed the most. This will inform an assessment of each playground that considers type of use and play value, overall condition and appearance, accessibility and inclusivity, location and distance to other playgrounds.

Until June 21, residents can visit EngageWR.ca/Playgrounds to share their experiences with Kitchener playgrounds. Respondents can drop a pin on an interactive map, identifying their most used playground and other playgrounds they use. Each pin will ask several questions about how often residents visit each park, what they enjoy, and how they feel in that space. In-person feedback opportunities will also be offered over the coming month.
