Rules and guidelines
Each municipality determines their own election sign rules. When and where election signs can be put in Kitchener are outlined in the Sign By-law (Municipal Code 680).
Election signs for the municipal election on October 26, 2026 may be put up:
- 45 days before election (September 11, 2026)
- On private property only with the owners consent
- Election signs are not permitted on any City or Regional property, including roundabouts and the road allowances on streets or within City parks or greenspaces within the jurisdiction of the City of Kitchener
- With a maximum width of 1.2 metres and the maximum height is 0.9 metres
- Shall be removed within 72 hours of the election date (October 29, 2026)
Any signs found in contravention of the by-law will be removed without notice and held for 30 days before being recycled.
If you encounter an election sign that violates any of the rules above, please report it.
