Community engagement

Community engagement is the process of involving residents in municipal decision-making. We want residents to have a meaningful role in the decisions that impact the services and programs they rely on every day.

In our 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, we committed to further enhancing our community engagement practices. We are now completing a comprehensive review to revise our existing policy and framework and develop a new strategy. Share your experiences, feedback and ideas with us. Engage Kitchener

Our online community engagement platform is called Engage Kitchener. It is part of the EngageWR site that is shared by all local governments in Waterloo region.

Engage Kitchener is the easiest way to learn about and give input on City projects and initiatives that are in development. There you can offer feedback, share opinions, and exchange ideas on topics that interest or affect you. If you want to be notified about new opportunities, create a free account.

How we engage residents

We share information, consult on specific projects, and encourage two-way dialogue as we develop policies, strategies and plans. Hearing from residents helps us make informed decisions that reflect community concerns and values. It is also sometimes needed to meet legislated or regulatory requirements.

Our community engagement policy describes our principles and framework for engagement. It ensures we have a consistent approach for when and how we engage residents. We are continually working to improve our engagement practices.

For more information, read our community engagement policy.
