Essey’s work has been deeply influenced by his experiences living as a refugee in Ethiopia for five years before moving to Canada. He talks about the concept of transition: focusing on the time spent waiting for change while in Ethiopia. He uses the metaphor of a tunnel in his paintings, to represent this period of transition. Unlike a bridge, which offers a clear view of the surroundings, a tunnel conveys a sense of isolation and uncertainty.

Taryn Ferrede Alqassis' "Layers of Ink and Light: The Grand KW" combines colour and movement in vibrant pieces.

The gallery welcomes back a showcase of art by youth from the art program at Reception House Waterloo Region. Led by local artist, Pamela Rojas, children use different art techniques to introduce them to Canadian culture.

Sharl explores the sculptural possibilities of traditional bead-stitching. In the sculptures presented in the gallery, she is experimenting with a technique called the warped square stitch. The work also reflects her broader interest in West African spirituality where the rhythms of water and spirit are deeply intertwined.
