We have two different ways to see active building permits in Kitchener. You can use our online building permit system or our interactive mapping tool. We update these permits every day, so you don’t have to worry about out-of-date information.

Active building permits and interactive mapping

We offer two convenient ways to access building permit information:

1. Online services

Use the online services portal to:

• search for building permit details
• submit applications
• track permit status

2. Interactive mapping tool

How to use the interactive mapping tool

Follow these steps to explore permits using our interactive mapping tool:

1. Launch the map

• open the property viewer by clicking on the "Property Viewer" button on the home page

2. Enable layers

• on the left side of the screen, under the "General" section, turn on the "Building Permits" layer in the layer manager
• confirm the following options are checked:
  • "Building Permits"
  • "Building Permits - Current" or "Building Permits - Historic"

3. Find a property

• zoom in manually or use the search bar on the right toolbar
• properties with permits will be outlined with hatched lines, or a grey box

4. View permit details

• click on a property to open a popup window with permit information
• if multiple permits exist, use the toggle arrows at the bottom of the popup window to view additional pages
• the map includes permits from 1986 to today
