Spotlight on Sport celebrates the athletes, coaches, volunteers, teams, organizations, and community champions who have made a meaningful impact on sport in Kitchener. Through community nominations, we share stories that inspire participation, recognize achievement, and highlight the people helping shape the future of sport in our city.
Spotlight on Sport is a permanent community exhibit outside the Cowan Fieldhouse that celebrates the people and organizations making a lasting impact on sport in Kitchener.
This exhibit recognizes athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, teams, organizations, and community leaders whose contributions have made a meaningful difference in sport and recreation. From local champions to behind-the-scenes supporters, their stories reflect the passion, dedication, and community spirit that help make Kitchener an active and vibrant city.
Whether competing at the highest levels, introducing the next generation to sport, or dedicating countless hours to local programs, these individuals and organizations help strengthen our community through sport.

Nominate an athlete, coach, volunteer, official, team, organization, or community champion to be featured

If you nominate someone else, City staff will contact the individual or their parent/guardian (if applicable) to obtain the required consent and photo before any feature is considered.

- A brief description of accomplishments, contributions, or community impact

- Your contact information
- The name of the individual, team, or organization being nominated
- Contact information for the nominee or if under the age of 18 their parent/guardian, where available
- The sport or activity being showcased

Please Note
- Parental or guardian consent is required for individuals under 18 years of age.
- Photos may only be submitted by the individual featured in the photo (if 18 years of age or older) or by their parent or legal guardian.
- If you nominate someone else, City staff will obtain any required consent and photos directly from the nominee or their parent/guardian.
- Submission of a story, nomination, or photo does not guarantee selection. Features will be chosen based on community impact, contribution to sport, and alignment with the goals of Spotlight on Sport, and may be displayed for up to one month.
Privacy and Photo Consent
By submitting photos, you confirm that you are the individual shown in the photos, or the parent or legal guardian of the individual shown, and consent to the City of Kitchener using the submitted materials for Spotlight on Sport and related promotional purposes. You acknowledge that the parent or legal guardian has the right to revoke the use of photographs or videos of their child(ren) in use at Cowan Recreation Complex at any time.
A signed Photo Release Form is required for all photo submissions.
