Kitchener launches new mentorship matchup program to connect established and emerging artists

Kitchener’s local artists play a crucial role in supporting the vibrancy and culture of our community. The City’s arts and creative industries team has launched a new program that helps support artists through a unique mentorship opportunity. The 44 Gaukel Mentorship Matchup program is a new initiative that aims to connect established and emerging artists to address project-specific goals and skills development gaps. The program gives established local artists the opportunity to use their knowledge and experience to support emerging local artists who are actively working to complete a new project.

The program will select up to 10 mentors and 10 mentees for its inaugural cohort. Mentees will get guidance on a specific arts-based project that they identify when applying, while both mentors and mentees will benefit from the knowledge sharing to enhance their experience and networking within the local arts community.

Applications for the Mentorship Matchup program will be accepted until Monday, Nov. 18, 2024. Selected applicants will participate in the program from January to May 2025, including opportunities to collaborate at the 44 Gaukel Creative Workspace in Downtown Kitchener. There is no fee to apply, and selected participants will be paid upon completion of the full program.

The City is hosting an information session on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the 44 Gaukel Creative Workspace for artists interested in applying.
