How to vote in this municipal election

The next regular municipal election to elect a mayor, ward councillors, regional chair, regional councillors, and school board trustees will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022. These elected officials will make important decisions affecting your city, region and school boards.

You can vote in the municipal election in Kitchener if you:

  • reside, rent or own property in Kitchener or are the spouse of someone who rents or owns property in Kitchener
  • are a Canadian citizen
  • are at least 18 years old
  • are not prohibited from voting by law

On election day, polls will be open from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. We’ve sent out Voter Notification Cards or Voter Information Letters to registered voters to make the voting process easier. Haven’t received your letter? You can still vote. Just make sure to bring a piece of ID that lists your name and address to your voting location.

Have a scheduling conflict or are otherwise unavailable on that day? You can vote before election day on:

  • Wednesday, October 12 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 13 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, October 14 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On an advance voting day, you can vote at any of these locations:

  • Breithaupt Centre, 350 Margaret Avenue
  • Country Hills Community Centre, 100 Rittenhouse Road
  • Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre, 150 Pioneer Drive
  • Forest Heights Community Centre, 1700 Queen's Boulevard
  • Stanley Park Community Centre, 505 Franklin Street North

Are you unable to make it in-person to vote on an advance voting day or election day? You can designate someone to vote on your behalf with proxy voting. Learn more at kitchener.ca/proxy.

If you are eligible to vote but do not have a permanent address, you can still vote. We consider your residence to be the place where you most often returned to sleep or to eat (examples: hostel, shelter, drop-in centre) during the last five weeks. Special voting days are also being arranged at:

  • A Better Tent City
  • St. John's Community Kitchen
  • Ray of Hope
