Celebrate Earth Day with the City of Kitchener

This month, the City of Kitchener joins individuals and organizations across the globe to celebrate Earth Day. Taking place on April 22, Earth Day 2026 explores the theme “our power, our planet” and how the daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families move environmental progress forward.

The City of Kitchener is committed to cultivating a greener city together as part of our Strategic Plan, which includes a number of actions to help achieve a low-carbon future. Our Corporate Climate Action Plan guides greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions at a municipal level, along with many programs that support the health of our community and its natural environment, with focus areas including parks, stormwater, active transportation, urban forest and tree canopy coverage, air quality, energy management and more.  We are also working with other area municipalities, residents and organizations to reduce GHG emissions across Waterloo Region by 30% by 2030 as part of TransformWR.

To help celebrate Earth Day and learn more about how you can contribute to a healthier Kitchener today and in the future, join us for some fun activities this month!
