Property assessments
Knowing the value of your property offers significant advantages. These details can help guide key decisions if you are planning to sell soon. They can also help you understand how your property taxes are calculated.
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing the value of every property in Ontario. Assessed values are then provided to municipalities - like ours, and used to determine property taxes.
In Kitchener, your residential property taxes are calculated using MPAC's assessed value, our annual tax rate, and the rates set annually by the Region of Waterloo and the Province of Ontario (education tax). Watch the following video on property assessment and taxation to see how all of these factors tie together.
For more information about your property assessment notice, your assessed value or assessment in general, contact your local MPAC office at 1-866-296-MPAC(6722) or 1-877-TTY-MPAC (TTY).
