Window replacement begins at Kitchener City Hall
Work will begin this week on the replacement of the windows and spandrel panels at Kitchener City Hall. Spandrel panels are non-structural pieces of the building’s façade that complement the windows. The windows and panels have reached the end of their expected service life and will be fully replaced between now and spring 2026. The work itself should cause minimal disruption to people accessing City Hall or surrounding buildings, as the majority of the work will take place after business hours.
While there is no immediate risk of failure, the glazing systems have aged beyond their useful lifespan. Temporary measures are currently in place to secure the existing spandrel panels, but permanent replacement is required. The work will involve both exterior and interior activities to reduce disruption to City Hall operations and will be carried out in compliance with all applicable safety, building, and energy efficiency codes. Scaffolding will move around City Hall throughout this process.
There will be no impact to services offered at City Hall, and the main entrance will remain accessible throughout the entire project. Please follow the directions on any construction signage when accessing Kitchener City Hall.
