What’s open and closed at City of Kitchener this Civic Holiday
Many City of Kitchener services and facilities will close or have modified hours on Monday, August 4, 2025. Have a great long weekend, Kitchener!
Facilities, activities and events available on Civic Holiday
City of Kitchener golf courses are open
Outdoor pools (Harry Class, Idlewood, Kiwanis, Wilson) are open for public swims
Indoor pools are open for regular programming
The Activa Sportsplex, including the walking track, is open
Facility closures
The following facilities are closed on August 4, 2025:
Kitchener City Hall Service Centre
All City community centres
All Kitchener Public Library locations
Kitchener Market food hall
The Aud and community arenas
Cooling centres
If you need to access a public cooling centre on Civic Holiday, visit the Region of Waterloo’s list of designated facilities.
No fireworks allowed for Civic Holiday
Under the City of Kitchener Municipal Code, fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day and Canada Day and Diwali. They are not permitted over the Civic Holiday long weekend.
Setting off fireworks outside of the permitted areas and times could result in a minimum fine of $1,500. To learn more about when and where fireworks are permitted, visit Kitchener.ca/fireworks.
For firework complaints, call the Waterloo Regional Police Service non-emergency line at 519-570-9777. In the event of an emergency or dangerous situation, always call 911.
