Volunteers needed for outdoor winter rink program
As the days get cooler and winter approaches, excitement grows in neighbourhoods for outdoor winter rinks! The City of Kitchener is looking for volunteer winter rink coordinators to lead a team in maintaining their outdoor neighbourhood rink this winter. While the outdoor rink season depends on the weather, it also relies on the generous support of community volunteers.
As an outdoor winter rink coordinator, you will provide leadership to a group of rink volunteers and be the City of Kitchener’s point of contact. You will oversee the daily rink operation (flooding, snow removal, and ice maintenance), manage funds, relay information from the city to rink volunteers, and work together to create and maintain an outdoor rink and welcoming space for your neighbourhood to enjoy this winter. Neighbourhood rinks still in need of winter rink coordinators for 2024-2025 season, include:
- Alpine Park, 175 Kingswood Dr.
- Belmont Park, 285 Belmont Ave. W.
- Centreville Chicopee Community Centre, 141 Morgan Ave.
- Max Becker Commons (Williamsburg Community Centre), 300 Max Becker Dr.
- Victoria Hills Community Centre, 10 Chopin Dr.
Winter rink coordinators should:
- be 18 years of age or older,
- live in the neighbourhood of the winter rink,
- be able to perform physical tasks like lifting and bending,
- work independently outdoors, and
- be available early in the morning or late at night, as needed
Winter rink coordinators and volunteers help to ensure the needs of our neighbourhood winter rinks are met from November through March. For more information visit www.lovemyhood.ca/outdoorrinks.
