Volunteer with a neighbourhood outdoor winter rink

As the temperature begins to drop, excitement grows for outdoor winter rinks! The City of Kitchener is in need of volunteers to build and maintain outdoor rinks in neighbourhoods across the city this winter. While the outdoor rink season depends on the weather, it also relies on the generous support of community volunteers.

Rink volunteers commit 3-6 hours per week to help make and maintain the ice, conduct regular snow removal, and inspect the rink. The full role description for the winter rink volunteer is available at www.kitchener.ca/volunteer.

Winter rink volunteers should be 18 years of age or older, live in the neighbourhood of the winter rink, be able to perform physical tasks like lifting and bending, work independently outdoors, and be available early in the morning or late at night as needed. Volunteers under 18 are welcome to apply, but parental/guardian permission is required. Volunteers under 14 require parental supervision.

Winter rink volunteers help to ensure the needs of over 25 winter rinks are met from November through March. For a complete list of winter rink locations, visit www.kitchener.ca/outdoorrinks.

If you are interested in volunteering at one of the outdoor winter rinks, please apply online, email us at volunteer@kitchener.ca or call 519-741-2200, ext. 7564, for more information.
