Upgrades at Meadowlane Park begin construction early July
Kitchener, Ontario – Construction will begin in early July at Meadowlane Park, with the goal of installing numerous upgrades that will respond to community needs and add quality of life improvements for people using the park, while also improving water quality and reducing flood risks. This work is the product of a comprehensive evaluation and community engagement process aimed at maximizing residents’ benefits while preparing for the more frequent, intense storms expected in the future due to climate change.
“I was impressed by the proposed design for the park that came out of our last round of community engagement,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “Projects like this are a key part of how we’re preparing our community for the impacts of climate change. In partnership with the federal government through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund, we are protecting the community with this crucial infrastructure. At the same time, parks and creeks across Kitchener are being beautified.”
During the construction period, parts of the park will be inaccessible, with a construction fence around the project site. Areas outside the fence may remain accessible, but residents are encouraged to follow the direction of all signage. Construction is expected to end in late 2026.
Some of the park features being added include:
Nature exploration area
Natural play area
Quiet seating area
A stormwater management pond
700 potted and caliper trees
Expanded pollinator plantings
Asphalt trails
“I’m looking forward to residents enjoying the new and improved Meadowlane Park,” said Ward 7 Councillor Bil Ioannidis. “This project is a great example of how, with a lot of planning and meaningful community engagement, we can turn infrastructure projects into real opportunities to make our community more liveable and beautiful.”
