Support to help youth qualify for summer employment with the City of Kitchener
The City of Kitchener is proud to offer financial support to youth who are living on a low income to help them qualify for a summer job with the City of Kitchener. The financial cost associated with the required qualifications for a position such as a lifeguard, swim instructor, camp leader, or youth drop-in coordinator, can often be a barrier for youth to be eligible to apply.
The Youth Summer Employment Support will offer youth ages 15-30 up to $300 to cover costs to get the certifications and documents required for summer employment with the city, including:
- drivers abstract or drivers record
- vulnerable persons criminal reference check
- standard first aid certification
- High Five certification
- Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard Swim Instructor certification
- uniforms
The Youth Summer Employment Support helps to reduce barriers to employment and increase opportunities for training and skill development for youth in our community. This also enhances the city’s recruitment efforts by investing in local youth seeking summer employment with the city.
Applications can be submitted online and are also available at all community centres and pools upon request. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
