Speaker series event focuses on quality education
The City of Kitchener, in collaboration with the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC), hosts a free monthly speaker series called SDG Talks. The series features talks exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how we, as individuals, can help create a more socially and environmentally sustainable planet. This year’s theme, Community of Difference Makers, highlights individuals and organizations advancing environmental stewardship, community building and social entrepreneurship.
Join us for the first SDG Talks event of 2025 on Tuesday, January 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St. W., Kitchener. The panel will focus on Goal #4, Quality Education, which aims to develop inclusive, equitable education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, empowering individuals and fostering sustainable development. Our panel of changemakers includes representatives from local organizations making a real difference in education and learning:
Priyanshi Dokania from HomeworkHub: Priyanshi is a Grade 11 student in Waterloo and the President of HomeworkHub, a youth-led, non-profit organization dedicated to providing free, accessible, and quality educational resources to all students and families in need.
Becky Swainson from Gather + Make: Becky is an environmental/social scientist, sewist and textile artist, instructor, and advocate for mending, slow fashion, and textile circularity based in Guelph. She is a founder of the Stitch Together Community Mending Project and teaches sought-after sewing and mending workshops through her studio, Gather + Make.
Ayiko Solomon from Peace for All Canada: Ayiko is the founder of Peace for All International and leads Peace for All Canada, which works with parents and community leaders to build community capacity for quality education, peaceful coexistence, and youth empowerment, fostering a culture of peace and collaboration.
Join us for an evening of engaging conversation, networking, and light refreshments. All are welcome to attend. This event is free to attend but registration is recommended.
