Speaker series event focuses on gender equality and good health and wellbeing
The City of Kitchener, in collaboration with the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC), hosts a free monthly speaker series called SDG Talks. The series features talks exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how we, as individuals, can help create a more socially and environmentally sustainable planet. This year’s theme, Community of Difference Makers, highlights individuals and organizations advancing environmental stewardship, community building and social entrepreneurship.
Join us for our next SDG Talks event on Tuesday, February 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St. W., Kitchener. The panel will focus on intersectional goals of SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and SDG 5: Gender Equality, exploring strategies to create healthier communities and promote gender equity. Our panel of changemakers includes:
Dr. Zino Ojogbo from Kind Minds Family Wellness (KMFW). KMFW specializes in Afrocentric/culturally grounded counseling, education, employment, and research advocacy that addresses anti-Black racism and systemic oppression. They foster Black community empowerment/resilience, support community services navigation and guide the design and delivery of culturally suitable educational programs and groups for children, youth, caregivers/adults and seniors.
Destiny Moser from FoodZen, an Indigenous-owned business whose mission is to cultivate wellness, foster connections and promote sustainability through nourishing, locally-sourced meals. Their mission is to advocate for food sovereignty, uplift local communities and embrace cooking as a language of communication and care.
Dr. Fadhilah Balogun from African Women’s Alliance of Waterloo Region, which promotes African culture and heritage to members of the African community and the broader community of Waterloo Region through educational and social activities. They also seek to provide a strong support system for African women and their families as they seek to combat the prevailing structural barriers in their journey.
Join us for an evening of engaging conversation, networking, and light refreshments. All are welcome to attend. This event is free to attend but registration is recommended.
