Remembrance Day ceremonies and facility closures

The Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 will hold its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the parade will start from Ontario Street and proceed along King Street and Frederick Street to the cenotaph on Duke Street. The service is open to the public, but please be mindful if you are experiencing any cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms.

Other remembrance ceremonies taking place locally include the annual Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony at Mount Hope Cemetery on Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m., as well as the annual German Remembrance Day Service (Volkstrauertag) at Woodland Cemetery on Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 marks Indigenous Veterans Day in Canada, honouring the important contributions made by First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans in service to our country.

This year, help mark Remembrance Day by supporting the annual KW Poppy campaign with a donation to the KW Poppy Fund. Since many will be recognizing Remembrance Day this year at home, consider making a donation online at www.kwpoppyfund.ca. The annual KW Poppy campaign helps provide emergency assistance, which is defined as shelter, food, fuel, clothing, prescription medicine and necessary transportation for ex-service personnel and their widows/widowers.
