Remembrance Day 2023: what’s open and closed
The Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 will hold its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the parade will start from Ontario St. and proceed along King St. and Frederick St. to the cenotaph on Duke St. The service is open to the public, but please be mindful if you are experiencing any cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms.
Other remembrance ceremonies taking place locally include the annual Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony at Mount Hope Cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m., as well as the annual German Remembrance Day Service (Volkstrauertag) at Woodland Cemetery on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 8, also marks Indigenous Veterans Day in Canada, honouring the important contributions made by First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans in service to our country.
This year, help mark Remembrance Day by supporting the annual KW Poppy Fund campaign by donating to the KW Poppy Fund. The annual KW Poppy Fund campaign helps provide emergency assistance, which is defined as shelter, food, fuel, clothing, prescription medicine and necessary transportation for ex-service personnel and their widows/widowers.
Some banks and government offices are closed on Saturday, Nov. 11, and on Monday, Nov. 13, for observance, including some City of Kitchener facilities.
City Hall
Kitchener City Hall will be closed for observance of Remembrance Day on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023. Services offered by staff will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 8:30 a.m.
Community centres
Community centres will be open regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 13.
Pools
Indoor pools will be open regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 13.
Kitchener Public Library
Kitchener Public Library locations will be open regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 13.
Kitchener Market
The Kitchener Market will be open Saturday, Nov. 11, from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and closed as usual on Sunday, Nov. 12, and Monday, Nov. 13.
The Kitchener Market will be open for regular business hours on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The Aud and arenas
The Aud and community arenas will be open regular hours this weekend.
Budd Park
Budd Park will be open for scheduled rentals on Saturday, Nov. 11, and regular office hours on Monday, Nov. 13.
