Now hiring: City of Kitchener opens applications for 200+ youth summer jobs

Kitchener, ON - The City of Kitchener has opened applications for more than 200 temporary youth jobs, beginning in summer 2026.

Whether applicants are exploring future career paths or looking to grow their resumes, Kitchener’s student positions offer meaningful work and transferable job skills in an engaging environment. Roles span a range of the City’s service areas, including summer camps, youth programs, inclusion support, lifeguarding, customer service, parks, events and more. Jobs with both full and part-time hours are available.

“Working for the City of Kitchener is a fantastic way for youth in our community to begin their career journeys. It’s how I got my start in public service,” reflected Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, whose first City roles included as a student shelver at Kitchener Public Library and a tote room clerk at Cameron Heights Pool during his high school years.  "The City is where I developed my skills and grew as a leader – which has helped me grow and serve in a variety of roles, including that of Mayor today. I’m proud that the City offers opportunities, like the ones I had, to hundreds of young people year after year.”

New opportunities this year include specialized program leadership roles. Youth with interests or experience in arts, drama, science, skateboarding, and other talents, are encouraged to apply.

“The City is known for our engaging, trusted summer programs. This year we’re introducing new options for children and youth looking to dive into their interests,” said Nathan Moore, Supervisor of Children’s and Youth Programs. “While attendees benefit, we also know our paid youth leadership roles open doors to self-expression and teamwork, helping young people to discover their passions and build skills that will shape their future.”

The City will hold a Youth Hiring Expo on Saturday, January 17 at the Forest Hill Community Centre, providing potential applicants an opportunity to connect with current staff and learn more about open positions. To reduce financial barriers that some may face when applying to roles with the City, like uniforms and certifications, Kitchener offers a Youth Employment Support Grant to offset potential costs.
