New crossing guard location at Groh Public School is a good time to remember school zone safety

A new crossing guard location has been established at the intersection of Thomas Slee and South Creek Drives, right in front of Groh Public School. This all-way stop will now be supervised by a dedicated crossing guard during the busy school periods.

Studies conducted at this intersection revealed a high volume of pedestrians, many of whom faced challenges in finding suitable gaps in traffic to cross safely. To address this, the crossing guard will provide clear and consistent direction for both pedestrians and drivers, ensuring a safer environment for all.

The crossing guard will be on duty from 8:40-9:10 a.m., and from 3:30 -3:50 p.m., coinciding with the peak times when students are arriving and departing from school.

For Pedestrians:

  • Please wait to cross until the crossing guard has taken their position on the roadway and ensured that all traffic has come to a complete stop.
  • Always follow the crossing guard's directions to ensure your safety.

For Drivers:

  • Remember that you are required to come to a complete stop at stop signs and yield to pedestrians. The crossing guard will indicate when it is safe for you to proceed.
  • Wait until all children and the crossing guard have cleared the entire roadway before moving your vehicle.
  • Adhere to the crossing guard's instructions at all times.

This newest location is the 83rd crossing guard location in Kitchener, with a total of 91 crossing guards, including rovers who fill in during times of absence. This new location will provide a safer journey for the students of Groh Public School and other pedestrians in the area.
