Monthly speaker series event focuses on peace, justice and strong institutions

The City of Kitchener, in collaboration with the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre (WRSBC), hosts a free monthly speaker series called SDG Talks. The series features talks exploring the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and how we, as individuals, can help create a more socially and environmentally sustainable planet. This year’s theme, Community of Difference Makers, highlights individuals and organizations advancing environmental stewardship, community building and social entrepreneurship.

Join us for our next SDG Talks event on Tuesday, August 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the SDG Idea Factory, 2 King St. W., Kitchener. The panel will focus on SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. This engaging discussion will feature community leaders working at the intersection of equity, education and advocacy. Our panel of changemakers includes:

  • Zelal Tutak from The Ripple Effect Education, where she leads initiatives focused on peace education and social-emotional learning.

  • Fauzia Mazhar from the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW. With over 20 years in the social profit sector, Fauzia is a passionate equity advocate and community builder.

  • Suzie Taka from Spectrum, Waterloo Region’s rainbow community space. Her career has focused on 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, creative communications, and reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Join us for an evening of engaging conversation, networking, and light refreshments. All are welcome to attend this free event but registration is recommended.
