Kitchener welcomes vaccine certificate program

Today, the Province announced the rollout of a vaccine certificate program that will require proof of vaccination for Ontario residents to access certain indoor public settings and facilities.

“Last week, Kitchener Council called on the Province for a consistent and coordinated approach to vaccine certification for Ontario's municipalities and businesses, and this is a great step in the right direction,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “We need to do everything we can to limit the impact of the fourth wave of this pandemic. Kitchener residents have really stepped up to get vaccinated and I encourage those who have not done so to roll up their sleeves as soon as possible to keep us all safe.”

As of September 22, 2021, Ontario residents will need to be fully vaccinated and provide their proof of vaccination to access certain indoor public settings and facilities like restaurants, meeting spaces, sport and recreation facilities, concerts, music festivals, theatres and more.

This will impact some City of Kitchener facilities such as arenas, pools and event spaces. In the coming days, city staff will be reviewing the details of the vaccine certificate program and working on an implementation plan in consultation with area municipalities and Public Health.
