Kitchener partners with local startup municiPal AI to deliver smarter digital experience
Kitchener, ON – The City of Kitchener is partnering with municiPal AI to transform how residents find information about their community online.
Founded in Kitchener and led-by an all-female team, municiPal AI helps municipalities improve service delivery through advanced website search functionality powered by AI, delivering accurate, accessible answers to residents' questions instantly.
“Kitchener strives to pave the way in terms of municipal innovation,” shared Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “Leveraging Kitchener’s tech ecosystem into City operations is a strategic priority. By investing in local solutions, created by talented local entrepreneurs, we’re strengthening Kitchener’s economy - and our reputation as a key part of Canada’s leading technology corridor.”
When prompted, municiPal AI combs through data across City of Kitchener websites to give residents accurate answers instantly, offering a reliable alternative to broader search tools that draw from many different sources.
“After years of working with municipal governments across Canada, I heard the same question again and again: how do we make our information easier to find?” shared Kristy Guthrie, CEO and co-founder of municiPal AI. “Local government websites are always going to be complex given the sheer volume of programs and services they provide. municiPal AI cuts through the noise and finds the information residents need right away.”
“I regularly hear from my constituents that they want it to be convenient to connect with Kitchener online," added Ward 7 Councillor Bil Ioannidis. "Using AI to make that connection easy, safe, and effective is a great use of technology. Knowing that municiPal is a locally founded, locally owned tech firm makes this partnership a win.”
The municiPal AI launch is part of a larger City of Kitchener website refresh project, which moved Kitchener.ca to a modernized platform, and redesigned key pages to enhance overall site usability.
"Every communications professional’s goal is to provide the clearest, most seamless user experience possible,” said Hillary Molinaro, Project Manager with the City’s Corporate Communications and Marketing division. “Knowing that the digital experience we’re providing on our new website is enhanced by a Kitchener-based, female-founded company makes it even better."
