Kitchener Mayor and Councillors Champion key priorities with Provincial Ministers at AMO
KITCHENER, ON - Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, together with City Councillors, return today from Ottawa where they attended the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference that included individual meetings with Provincial Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentary Assistants and Opposition Leaders to discuss how we can build Kitchener together and protect Ontario.
Over the course of the conference, Team Kitchener advanced core priorities related to transportation, infrastructure, economic development, and housing. Delegations included meetings with the Ministers of Finance, Economic Development, Transportation and Energy amongst others, while also participating in Ministerial meetings involving the Ontario Big City Mayors and the Region of Waterloo.
“AMO 2025 was a powerful opportunity to showcase Kitchener’s leadership and partnership in protecting Ontario,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “From exceeding housing targets to driving innovation and economic growth, Kitchener continues to deliver results. Our meetings with Cabinet Ministers and Opposition Leaders reinforced our shared commitment to building a vibrant community and protecting our economy.”
The last two days of individual meetings followed the annual joint meeting of the Ontario Big City Mayors’ Caucus (OBCM) and the Mayors and Regional Chairs of Ontario (MARCO) where Mayor Vrbanovic joined his colleagues in advocating for important issues around housing. This included Mayor Vrbanovic tabling a motion to stop bad-faith renovictions in our Province, which received unanimous support of the OBCM and MARCO Caucuses
“Now more than ever, we must capitalize on this momentum,” said Mayor Vrbanovic. “Kitchener is not just a willing ally, we’re aligned and fully prepared to act on Ontario’s vision locally, strategically, and with urgency. Let’s keep building Kitchener and protect Ontario, together.”
One of the standout moments of the AMO conference was the presentation of the prestigious Peter J. Marshall Innovation Award to the City of Kitchener, recognizing its groundbreaking City Hall Service Centre. Presented to Mayor Vrbanovic, CAO Dan Chapman and Trevor Lennox, Supervisor, Corporate Contact Centre the award celebrates Kitchener’s leadership in redefining municipal customer service through innovation, accessibility, and community-driven design.
