Kitchener is your March Break destination for family fun

Families looking to make the most of spring break won’t have far to go. Kitchener’s parks, playgrounds, trails, skateparks and the Kitchener Market are buzzing with opportunities to stay active, explore and make new memories. 

Plus, the City of Kitchener is offering a variety of no‑ and low‑cost activities for children, youth and families to enjoy throughout March Break — making it easy to play, discover and have fun close to home. 

 

Downtown Showdown 

Wednesday, March 18 from noon to 5 p.m.  

Carl Zehr Square, 200 King Street West 

The Kitchener Rangers experience is coming to Carl Zehr Square! Level up your March Break with an afternoon of free winter fun featuring a 3-on-3 road hockey tournament, autographs, music from a live DJ and a performance by The Trevor Show, family-friendly games, free hot chocolate and maple taffy, and more.   

 

March Break Fun Day   

Thursday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Enjoy creative arts & crafts, sports & games, STEM & hands-on activities in a supervised environment at Centreville Chicopee Community Centre.

Public Swims (all ages) 

Dive in and enjoy daily public swims throughout March Break at Forest Heights Pool, Breithaupt Rec Centre and Grand River Recreation Complex Admission fees apply. 

 

Free indoor skating (all ages) 

Come out and enjoy free March Break skates at a number of indoor rinks, courtesy of   Josslin Insurance. 

    

Multi-Generational Pickleball (all ages) 

Monday, March 16 and Thursday, March 19 - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Try your hand at Pickleball at Queensmount Arena. Registration is required at PickupHub. Fees apply. 

 

Multi-Generational Short Mat Lawn Bowling (ages 4+) 

Monday, March 16 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. / Thursday, March 19 – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 

Bring the family to play Short Mat Lawn Bowling indoors at the Grand River Rec Complex (600 Heritage Drive). It’s easy to learn and great for all skill levels. No experience is necessary. Fees apply. 

 

Multi-Generational Basketball (ages 12+) 

Monday, March 16 / Wednesday, March 18 / Friday, March 20 - 12 to 1:30 p.m.   

Take your shot with Pay-as-you-Play Basketball at Breithaupt Centre. Registration is required in person or via ActiveNet. Fees apply. 

 

Kids in the Kitchen March Break Camp (ages 7-12) 

Tuesday, March 17 – Friday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily 

Kitchener Market, 300 King Street East

In this four-day course, junior chefs will learn a variety of recipes and skills to give them a creative outlet and confidence in the kitchen. Between recipes, they’ll enjoy arts, crafts and games. Registration is required. The cost to attend is $270 per camper, which includes four days of activities along with one meal and two snacks per day. Registration is open until noon on Saturday, March 14.  Learn more and register on ActiveNet. 

Youth Drop-In (YDI) (ages 12-17) 

Youth can take part in FREE drop–in mini basketball tournament or volleyball, while still enjoying all the usual YDI activities, games and sports. No registration is required.  

Monday to Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Tournaments will run nightly all week and rotate at several community centres(click  link for schedule).   

Friday, March 20, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. - Kingsdale Community Centre 

Saturday, March 21, 6 to 8 p.m. - Victoria Hills Community Centre
