Kitchener in Bloom garden recognition program ends season with free event featuring master gardeners
Join the City of Kitchener as we recognize the gardening efforts of residents who have helped to make Kitchener a greener, more vibrant, and sustainable place to live.
Kitchener in Bloom is the city’s annual garden recognition program where residents acknowledge the incredible work their neighbours have put into creating and maintaining their gardens throughout the season. All types of gardens are eligible, from flowerbeds to balcony boxes, rain gardens, rock gardens, and community gardens.
“This year, a record 1,360 gardens received official recognition through the Kitchener in Bloom program from May through September,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “We have so much to be proud of in Kitchener and seeing the passion of our residents “bloom” in this way as they strive to add to the beauty of our community, is awesome!”
“When neighbours recognize their neighbours, it goes a long way in building community pride and growing a stronger connection between neighbours,” added Kitchener in Bloom committee member and ward 2 councillor Dave Schnider.
The city will host a Kitchener in Bloom appreciation event on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Kitchener City Hall Rotunda, 200 King St. West. Everyone is welcome to attend. The event is free, parking is available at the city hall parking garage, and registration is not required.
A panel of four Waterloo Region master gardeners will provide expert gardening tips and advice to plan for next year, followed by an opportunity to ask questions. City staff will be available to share information about the Love My Hood Matching Grant that supports neighbourhood greening projects. Free crafts for the kids and light refreshments will be available (while quantities last) as well as giveaways throughout the evening.
