Kitchener Fire empowers young women to explore a career in emergency services
The City of Kitchener is showcasing its Female Firefighter in Training (FFIT) program this week, from June 23-26, at Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Centre, 1001 Erbs Rd., Waterloo.
The four-day camp invites 24 Camp FFIT participants, ages 15 to 19, to explore a potential career in emergency services through hands-on training and experience in different fire demonstrations and exercises, including:

hoses, handlines and hydrants

self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) obstacle course

search and rescue (2 storey)
-
forcible entry
-
Rope rescue and ladder evolution
-
auto extrication
-
all-up scenario demonstration
-
CPR scenarios
-
dispatch evolutions
The program is led by certified firefighters, Kitchener Fire staff, and other instructors who volunteer their time to educate and empower young women to pursue careers in fire services.
The participants were selected from a pool of nearly 50 applicants.
