Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT ignites future fire service possibilities for females age 15 to 19

The City of Kitchener welcomes the return of Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training), a camp designed to educate and empower young women (age 15 to19) to explore a career in fire services. Not your ordinary camp, Kitchener Fire Camp FFIT is offered annually by the Kitchener Fire Department.

This year, Camp FFIT will take place June 23 to June 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Research Centre in Waterloo. This immersive four-day experience will give participants a hands-on introduction to the fire service in a supportive, encouraging environment. Some of the training evolutions include search and rescue, fire communications, auto extrication, forcible entry, high angle rescue, hose deployment donning firefighter gear, and more.

Participants gear up to experience real life activities led by experienced firefighters. Along the way, they will build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while discovering what the job really looks like, beyond the sirens. Above all, participants will uncover new strengths, form lasting connections, and begin to see a future they may never have imagined.

Applications to attend the camp open Sunday, March 1 at 9 a.m. and will remain open until April 16. Interested applicants must meet application requirements including being in good physical condition, having a positive attitude, and following all safety rules.
