Join the City of Kitchener to celebrate Winter Bike to Work Day
Join the winter fun on February 10 for Winter Bike to Work Day. This annual event promotes sustainable modes of transportation and shows how cycling can be safe and enjoyable all year round.
The City of Kitchener is hosting a group ride at 7:30 a.m. that will begin at Kitchener City Hall and end at the Kitchener Market. The 20-minute ride will travel through the downtown cycling grid and showcase the newly opened separated bike lanes on Cedar Street, Ontario Street, Joseph Street and Water Street.
After the refreshing ride, cyclists will be treated to a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate at the Kitchener Market. New winter cyclists will also receive prizes, courtesy of Ziggy’s Cycle.
The City of Kitchener is dedicated to facilitating people-friendly transportation year-round and currently maintains more than 300 km of separated bike lanes and trails.
"I enjoy riding to work because it is an easy way for me to fit exercise into my day, help my mood and live more sustainably," said Ward 10 Councillor, Aislinn Clancy. "There is no better medicine for my mental health than a ride on my bike."
Cyclists are encouraged to dress according to the weather. People who enjoy walking, skating, or skiing are just as likely to enjoy winter cycling.
