Holiday hours and firework safety reminders ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend

Residents are encouraged to keep safety in mind this Victoria Day long weekend and exercise caution with private backyard fireworks displays.

Under the City of Kitchener Municipal Code, fireworks can only be set off on privately owned property, before 11 p.m., provided residents can meet the setback requirements on Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Diwali. Fireworks cannot be set off on City-owned lands, parks, or schoolyards or to anyone under the age of 18.

For firework complaints, call the Waterloo Regional Police Service non-emergency line at 519-570-9777. In the event of an emergency or dangerous situation, always call 911. To learn more about when and where fireworks are permitted and for safety tips, visit www.kitchener.ca/fireworks.
