Help shape Kitchener’s public tree bylaw

The City of Kitchener is updating its public tree bylaw, and we want your feedback to help shape the future of our city’s urban forest! Our public tree bylaw helps us sustainably manage and conserve the trees across the community by setting guidelines for how trees are planted, conserved and removed. As part of our approach to meeting the tree canopy target set out in our Urban Forest Strategy, we are currently reviewing the bylaw to help us better protect city-owned trees.

We’re launching a public tree bylaw engagement program and asking individuals to share feedback on some of the proposed updates. These include updates to existing fines that help recover the costs of tree damage or removal, an improved permitting system to protect city trees and soil habitat zones during construction, and a more formalized tree replacement and compensation process, among others.

Visit www.engagewr.ca/CityOwnedTrees to learn more about the proposed bylaw updates and provide your feedback by Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.
