Help make Kitchener litter-free this spring
Kitchener, Ontario – On Tuesday, April 22, the City of Kitchener is joining people and organizations around the world in recognizing Earth Day, an annual event that encourages individuals to demonstrate their support for environmental protection. We’re also ramping up forthe Provincial Day of Action on Litter on Tuesday, May 13. This spring, helpmake Kitchener litter-free.
Litter can harm wildlife, damage ecosystems and detract from the natural beauty of our community. Here are some ways you can get involved!
Host a community clean-up
Bring your neighbours, coworkers, or classmates together for a clean-up to make a big impact on your neighbourhood. Help clean up a local park, public space, or trail this Earth Day. For free clean-up supplies (gloves and garage bags), register at lovemyhood.ca/cleanup.
Contest
Want to win a Bloom {in} Box from Reep Green Solutions? Each box contains plants whose colour, season, foliage and height will coordinate well when planted together. Look for our posts on Earth DayonFacebook, Instagram and Twitteraskinghow you’ve been helping the Earth!
Keeping Kitchener clean
Keeping our community litter-free isn’tjust something we do on Earth Day – it's a responsibility we share year-round! Some great ways to help keep Kitchener clean every day are:
Make sure outdoor garbage cans have tight-fitting lids.
Reduce waste by minimizing single-use items, reusingitems when possibleor donating items that can be reused by someone else, and responsibly disposing of items that are no longer useful.
Clean up after pets on walks, in parks and on trails, and dispose of pet waste properly.
Throw out waste in garbage cans around our community to prevent litter. Find your nearest garbage can using ourgarbage can map.
