Help make Kitchener litter-free this Earth Day
On Monday, April 22, the City of Kitchener is joining people and organizations around the world in recognizing Earth Day, an annual event that encourages individuals to demonstrate their support for environmental protection.
To mark the occasion, the City of Kitchener will be presenting the next generation of its Corporate Climate Action Plan to the Planning & Strategic Initiatives committee on top of its spring and summer campaigns of community clean-ups.
Help make Kitchener litter-free. Litter can harm wildlife, damage ecosystems, and detract from the natural beauty of our community. This Earth Day, consider hosting a community clean-up or joining us at the Kitchener Market for workshops on sustainable living and vermicomposting.
Host a community clean-up
Bring your neighbours, coworkers, or classmates together for a clean-up to make a big impact on your neighbourhood. Help clean up a local park, public space, or trail this Earth Day. For free clean-up supplies (gloves and garage bags), register at lovemyhood.ca/cleanup.
Corporate Climate Action Plan
Monday is Earth Day, and staff will be presenting our new draft Corporate Climate Action Plan to the Planning & Strategic Initiatives Committee. The plan is a strategy to pivot the organization towards a net-zero greenhouse gas emission target by 2050. It reports on our corporate greenhouse gas emissions from our operations, and ways to reduce them using three broad pathways: energy efficiency, fuel switching and generating renewable local energy.
Join the presentation of the new plan to committee live by visiting kitchener.ca/watchnow at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Find out more about our Corporate Climate Action Plan here.
