First concepts for Dundee Secondary Plan now available

Kitchener, Ontario – The City of Kitchener has presented the initial concepts for the Dundee Secondary Plan, outlining how a new community of over 30,000 residents could take shape in the coming decades. Staff are looking for feedback from the public on the concepts that outline how roads, utilities, parks, natural areas, schools and an urban centre could be built.

The concepts were unveiled at a public meeting held at the Huron Community Centre last night and the material presented is now available on the project’s Engage Kitchener page. The parcels of land totaling approximately 460 hectares, is bounded by Fischer-Hallman Road to the west and New Dundee Road to the south.

“The plans presented today outline a bold vision for a thriving community in the south end of Kitchener,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “These plans are an early step towards making sure that this part of the city is developed responsibly, conserving the natural environment while offering the services, amenities and lifestyle that residents want, alongside a variety of housing types.”

The material available on Engage Kitchener explains how the Dundee Secondary Plan will guide the long-term development of this new community in southwest Kitchener, accommodating approximately 34,000 people and jobs. The development is a transformative opportunity to stitch existing and new communities together and enable the development of a complete, resilient, and connected Dundee community.

On the Engage page, you can also share your thoughts about two preliminary land use scenarios through an interactive online activity.

“I’m glad to start the conversation with residents about the future of southwest Kitchener,” said Ward 5 Councillor Ayo Owodunni. “What we’re considering here is a community hub for this end of our broader community, and the decisions we make through this plan will guide how this community develops in the coming years. I encourage everyone to read through the material and let us know what you think.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the Dundee Secondary Plan Engage Page to provide their feedback before Friday, June 27 and subscribe to be notified about the next opportunity to get involved.
