Compass Kitchener highlights City’s strategic progress
Kitchener, ON – Compass Kitchener, a resident-led advisory committee, has released their 2024 report card evaluating the City of Kitchener’s progress towards meeting its strategic plan commitments.
Each year, Compass Kitchener members review City staff’s completed strategic plan projects against criteria spanning responsible project delivery, impact and public value, transparency and communication, and public engagement. The committee assessed the accelerating commercial business approvals and advancing Truth and Reconciliation projects. Both were deemed to have exceeded expectations, reflecting the City’s commitment to strong economic development and partnerships with Indigenous communities.
“Compass Kitchener plays a vital role in supporting Council in the development of our strategic plan each term, and in holding Council and staff accountable to implementation of our plan,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “Since its inception in 2003, Compass Kitchener has regularly elevated residents’ feedback directly to Council. With an approach built on providing community insights to Council that’s truly unique to Kitchener, Council ensures we’re not just setting goals, but truly delivering on them, together.”
Members also weighed in on the value of the City’s approach to developing its current strategic plan, applauding both the levels of public engagement and the adaptive approach used to ensure plans reflect and prioritize residents’ current needs.
The City of Kitchener invites all residents to explore the current strategic plan and its progress towards meeting its vision of building a city for everyone where, together, we take care of the world around us – and each other.
